Land sale to foreigners will be possible beginning in May 2014
The parliament prolonged the prohibition on selling agricultural and forestry land to foreigners until 30 April 2014, reported www.15min.lt on 3 November.
On Thursday 95 parliament members voted for adequate amendments of the constitution; eight members withheld their judgment.
The European Commission extended the prohibition until 30 April 2014, as requested by Lithuania, but it must be codified in constitutional law as well.
In joining the European Union, Lithuania negotiated a seven-year transitional period during which foreigners could not buy land in Lithuania. This period ended on 1 May this year.
